Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
