The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a distinct vision.
The president noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete text from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
His management and experience in the competitive gaming field is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving Ben soon. We are all looking forward to keep observing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.
David
Background of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman presently serves in the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a early access event. Then, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that shift every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, risk it all, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can anticipate additional details as development progresses.
